collection?
I just got a letter from a collection agency stating that i owe like $1500 on a phonebill from 10 years ago. I didnt know who it was from so i called and they told me. How long can the collector asked me for this debt? I thought it was supposed to come of 10 years after the debt. They also told me that they contacted me in 2002, but today was actually the first time i heard about it.

- You syill owe them the money...
- Check your states statue of limitations!!!!!!! Most are only 7 years.
- They must provide evidence of the debt. They are required to produce it within thirty days of your written request. If they cannot produce it, they will have to release you from the debt. It is on your credit report? You may want to familiarize yourself with the fair debt collections practices act. I think it would answer most of your questions as to your rights when dealing with collection agencies. http://getprequalified.com/article/104814/debt_negotiation/the_fair_debt_collection_practices_act_what_are_my_rights_if_i_owe_money.html
- If the debt is more than 7 years old, they can not sue you. However, they can call you until the day you die. If you make any payments, even $5.00 that could start the clock all over again. Do not call them or send any payments period.
